About The Healing Hands Project
Our Mission
At The Healing Hands Project, my mission is to bring physical & emotional comfort to children receiving medical treatments.
“The Healing Hands Projects” began 10 years ago when my best friend was diagnosed with a disease needing frequent IV infusions. My mom would allow me to miss a day of school to spend time in the hospital with her during her treatments. I brought crafts for us to work on together to make the time pass. After the IV was removed, My friend complained about the pain and bruising in her arm every time she received treatments. I wanted to help her feel a little more comfortable and asked my Mom for help. She suggested that I make a bunny from a washcloth that could be used as an ice pack and comfort toy. Not only did she loved it, but the nurses asked if I could make more for the other children that come in for treatments. I then realized how this simple bunny could help make medical treatments and procedures a positive experience for so many children.
This ignited my passion to continue making a difference in others’ lives with what I now call, “The Healing Hands Projects”.
In a continued effort to expand “The Healing Hands Projects,” I have received 501(c)(3) status, made and donated more than 8,000 bunnies to over 20 local facilities and 19 Ronald McDonald House Charity locations in Illinois, Louisiana, Florida, Wisconsin and Indiana. I have fundraised and collected items for “Comfort Kits” gifting over 350 to hospitals throughout Illinois. These kits consist of items that help children feel comfortable and supported during their treatments & procedures. I work every month with Girl Scout Troops, local school clubs, sports teams and businesses enlisting their help to spread comfort and joy in their own communities.
As a future Nurse Practitioner, I am passionate about working with children and helping them find comfort in their own healing processes. With your help and donations we can reach thousands more children with our
